In my life I have been a writer, a chef and a gas controller for a natural gas pipeline now, at 49 I am carving a new career in the arts. In 2005 I went back to school to learn Costume Cutting and Construction & discovered a passion for ballet. 5 years later, following a 2 year internship in Theatrical Production Management at the Banff Centre and a 5 month job search I am working in Winnipeg and loving it!

Mushrooms in September
A close up of some fungi I met while biking 26 km of the Lochside Trail from Victoria to Saanichton (vVancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada) in September 2009. Of all the photos I took I loved these mushrooms the best.
Posted as Part of "On My Mind" weely feature on the Down to Earth blog.

Hello Janet. Did you eat the mushrooms? They look delicious. Good luck with your arts job.
ReplyDeleteHope you find work in the arts soon. You sound very talented/gifted. What is that saying: "pray as if it all depends on God and work as if it all depends on you" -- or something to that variation. Probably out of context, but is a winning combination to me. I'm sure you'll land with the job you're best suited for, despite the economy.
ReplyDeleteI ADORE Fungi! I photograph all the different varieties that we spot when we go on our walks by the river. I find these to be so amazing in that from the dead something beautiful arises in Nature.
ReplyDeleteHello Rhonda and thank you for the kind wishes! It didn't even occur to me to eat them as I am a city girl at heart and was raised not to eat things I am not sure of. Now I wish I had picked at least 1 of them, they were huge! I have also learned much more about mushrooms since that day. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Becky - that is so very true for me as well! This lovely little grouping was just hiding under the shade of a hedgerow, waiting to be photographed. :-) I hope to continue photographing fungi but in Alberta, where I currently live, it is VERY dry and few come out to play.
ReplyDeleteBecca, you are so kind and inspirational! Thank you. I feel that the right job or situation will happen I just hate being unemployed and dependant on family & friends while it happens. I am very proud that way.
ReplyDeleteAll these comments have given me hope again though, I shall not give up on my chosen career!
Thanks
Janet
lovely capture! best of luck on finding just the right position as you transition to a new career!
ReplyDeleteHello Janet I love your photos. I love Vancouver Island I have had a few weeks there my Aunt lives there. It is a wonderful place. I live in Ontario it is cold and snowy. What a great bike ride I would love to do that someday. B
